Ornament Tips

The following guide will assist you in restoring and maintaining the shine in your Jewellery.
Professional Cleaning
Just about all jewellers will offer a Jewellerycleaning service for very reasonable prices. If the following simple cleaning methods are not effective or your Jewellery requires more extensive maintenance you should definitely consider having your Jewellery cleaned professionally. The following cleaning methods are safe, if you’re Jewellery requires additional cleaning the job is probably best left in the hands of the experts.

Cleaning Gemstones
Before cleaning any type of Jewellery containing stones ensure the stone is secure in its setting. Ensure you are cleaning away from an open sink. Gemstones are usually treated via a number of methods to enhance their natural shine and vibrancy. Due to this and the wide variance in chemical composition in each type of gemstone there is no single chemical useful in cleaning all gemstones. Instead it is best to use a slightly damp cloth to clean the gemstone after it is worn. A soft old (but very well cleaned) tooth brush is useful for cleaning the build up of grim between the gemstone and its setting. Some types of gemstone are extremely brittle so always be gentle.

Cleaning Gold
Gold jewellery is susceptible to tarnish. A simple solution of warm soapy water and a few drops of ammonia applied via a soft brush is an effective method of removing the build up of tarnish. Rinse the Jewellery after cleaning and dry with a soft chamois or Jewellery cloth

General Care
Now that you know the basics on how to clean Jewellery the following tips will assist in prolonging the shine of your newly restored Jewellery and help ensure it stays in the best condition possible.

Always wash, apply makeup, hairspray and lotions before you wear your Jewellery. Do not wear your Jewellery while swimming in pools, the chlorine and salt water may damage the metal. Regularly check the precious stones in your Jewellery to ensure the setting is secure and the stone aren’t going to be lost.

Keep your jewelry in a good jewelry box. The items should be separated from each other (to avoid scratching). More expensive items should be kept in a soft cloth jewelry bag to help avoid oxidisation.

Note :
These instructions are only a guideline to help you preserve you precious jewelry in its original beauty. It is always better to consult a jeweller for some expert advice.
